Animal Vehicle Countermeasures
Animal vehicle countermeasures are strategies to reduce the number of animal-vehicle interactions on roadways. Animal-vehicle collisions occur at a higher rate in rural areas due to increased wildlife populations and activity, reduced lighting, and reduced roadside visibility. Numerous countermeasures are available, including animal detection systems, warning signs, roadside fencing, wildlife overpasses, and improved lighting.
