Safety Countermeasures
Safety countermeasures are actions taken to improve transportation safety and therefore decrease the number of injuries and fatalities. Safety countermeasures may include geometric design, systemic safety, and intelligent transportation systems. Because safety challenges are different in rural areas, some safety countermeasures are more effective in rural locations than others, or there may be unique installation and operation considerations.
This section provides resources and examples of rural safety countermeasures. Some of the key countermeasures are highlighted in individual subtopics, where they are described in greater detail.
