Speed Management Systems
In a rural area, 30 percent of road fatalities result from speed related crashes. (http://www-nrd.nhtsa.dot.gov/Pubs/812050.pdf) Speed management systems are used to reduce the number of speed related crashes. Examples of effective speed management systems include traffic calming techniques, variable speed limits, roadside speed warning displays, and onboard vehicle technologies.
This section provides resources on selecting and implementing a speed management program.
