It’s National Bike Month!
The 61st annual National Bike Month is this May, and it is a great reason to get those bikes out. Cycling is a healthy, green, and money-saving activity that is growing in popularity. The League of American Bicyclists estimates almost 900,000 people in the United States are using bikes as their primary means of transportation. Nearly 100 million Americans bike ride for recreation each year!
Check this map to find out if your state is a “Bicycle Friendly State”. Want to build partnerships in your community to advocate for increased bicycle friendliness? Partnerships can be built among bike clubs, bike shops, chambers of commerce, schools, community centers, employers, and churches. Try hosting an event for National Bike Month to increase awareness in your area. Use social media and local newspapers and/or radio stations to help promote bike events and related activities.
If your organization or town is interested in planning Bike Month events, there is a resource guide available with many ideas and examples.
