BOZEMAN, MONTANA – 2/27/2024 – Big tasks require big teams.
In a gesture to reaffirm its commitment to the National Roadway Safety Strategy (NRSS), the National Center for Rural Road Safety (the Center) has joined more than 160 transportation organizations and stakeholders in the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) NRSS call-to-action to significantly reduce serious injuries and deaths on our nation’s highways, roads, and streets.
The group is called “Allies in Action.”
The USDOT held a media event on February 21 to announce the release of the 2024 NRSS Progress Report and recognize 41 new allies from transportation organizations, including the Center.
“We have been on board with the NRSS since it was launched in 2022,” said Jaime Sullivan, director of the Center. “Our recent addition to the USDOT Allies in Action is another way we can voice our continuous dedication to driving roadway fatalities to zero on rural roads.”
The Center was noted in the announcement for its Road Safety Champion program, a “Road Safety 101” certificate program designed for professionals in any agency who would like to know the basics of roadway safety but are not roadway safety experts.
“The RSCP is one way we equip the doers,” Sullivan said. “The ones who are in the rural communities and dealing directly with roadway fatalities in their communities. We want to equip them no matter their discipline, because solving our roadway fatality crisis requires an interdisciplinary approach.”
The RSCP is a nationally recognized certificate program and offers tracks in the disciplines of maintenance and construction, planning and engineering, public health, and first responder.
